Kennebec River

In the highlands of Maine, and at the heart of Moosehead Lake is the East Outlet of the Kennebec River flowing southwest from Moosehead Lake between the towns of Rockwood and Greenville. The East Outlet is a relatively short, but swift 3.5 mile stretch of river. It is brimming with landlocked salmon and brook trout that allows for many fly fishing methods and techniques. Designated for fly fishing only, the East Outlet offers year-round opportunities and some of Maine’s Best Landlocked Salmon and Brook Trout fishing.

Penobscot River

With eleven miles of river from Ripogenus Dam to the Abol Bridge, the mighty Penobscot has some of the most prolific and exciting fly fishing water in the state of Maine. From powerful class V rapids, to deep pools, and long riffles, the West Branch of the Penobscot River has a robust population of Wild Landlocked Salmon and Brook Trout. Due to powerful falls, steep gorge and deep pools, wading many sections of this river is very challenging. The best way to reach, and fish the most productive water is to fish by inflatable rafts or drift boats tailored for fly fishing.

Remote Pond Fishing

By early July the hatch begins on Maine Ponds and is adept at drawing out river anglers from their normal habitat. The juicy Mayfly will often drive native brook trout to rise and bite large dry flys off the surface of these ponds. The hatch can be unpredictable, but when the conditions are right it can be epic.

Chuck Wagenheim

I have been guiding fishing and skiing trips for over forty years. I started in northern Vermont on rivers and lakes near my home in Newport Vermont. Eventually, I opened a sporting goods store and complete outfitting service serving the northern region of Vermont. Over the years we expanded our trips into New Hampshire and Northern Maine. The fishing and backcountry skiing opportunities in the North Woods of Maine are endless and over the last 20 years, I have fished and guided on remote ponds. I have been on big and small rivers. I am a registered Maine Guide specializing in fly fishing on the Kennebec, Penobscot, Roach, and Androscoggin. When I am not fishing or skiing I enjoy biking, hiking, camping, and enjoying northern Maine at Moosehead Lake with my family. The relationships I have with my clients are what I enjoy the most about guiding and I love sharing the outdoor experience of Maine.

Thanks Chuck for a wonderful fishing trip on the Kennebec River. I haven’t fly fished in years and your instruction and patience got me right back in to it. I caught some beautiful salmon and I am planning more trips to Northern Maine

I went on a 3 day fishing and camping trip with Chuck on the Penobscot River. I had never caught a salmon or brook trout before and I was a novice fly fisherman. Chuck was extremely patient and taught me how to cast, read water, understand fly selection and play fish. The fishing was tremendous and I caught a big 18” salmon and lots of other salmon and brook trout. The camping experience was first class with comfortable tents and cots and great food. I am looking forward to another trip with Chuck and Northern Rivers Fly Fishing.

Kim - Vermont / August 2021

All I can say is that I have been fly fishing for brook trout for 20 years and in 2 days fishing with Chuck on remote ponds I caught my biggest brook trout ever and my second best, third best and fourth best. Northern Maine is a brook trout fisherman’s heaven and Chuck’s knowledge and experience will put you on fish.
